Yorkshire’s coastline has a lot to offer the walker. Smuggler’s haunts and trods, tiny fishing villages with their sturdy cobles, an unusual brig, old mining ruins, a castle an abbey and stunning scenery. The Northern coast has the highest cliffs in England at Boulby, although he headlands at Whitby, Scarborough and Ravenscar are impressive by their size. The Yorshire Wolds meet the sea at Flamborough, the sheer, white chalk cliffs are a landmark and are seen from miles away on land or sea.
Not all the walks in the book are coastal, some being in the countryside near the coast. Most country walks have good views of the sea and the coast with just one exception and that one has a lake! The walks are under five miles in length and can be tackled by well equipped walkers. Remember good boots are essential for all rough walking. Some walks are dependent on the state of the tide and reference must be made to the times of high and low water, before setting out , to allow plenty of time for the return journey. Cliff paths can be quite eroded and care must be taken at all times when walking upon them. I hope you enjoy short walks around the Yorkshire Coast and Countryside and please be careful.
