Forest Enterprise cares for Forestry Commission woodlands on behalf of the nation. It has the responsibility of producing a sustainable supply of timber, at the same time protecting and increasing biodiversity, protecting historical and cultural heritage and providing access for a great diversity of recreational activities. Dalby and the other forests of North Riding Forest Park are carefully managed to meet these demanding commitments.
.
Here are some interesting facts about the forests in this area:-
Most of them are less than 80 years old
They produce about 120.000 cubic metres a year
More than 600,000 trees are planted every year
They contain more than 3000 ancient monuments
More than 1.5 million people visit them each year
Recreational activities include; relaxing, walking, cycling, riding, orienteering, sightseeing, picnicking, motor rallying and motorcycle enduro racing
If you want to find out more about local forests then pay a visit to the New Dalby Visitor Centre and Forest Shop, built as an Eco-friendly building, where the experienced staff are on hand to give advice.
