We have searched around for a few years for some really high quality tents that will do the job in wind and rain not just for today or next week but for years to come. In the last few years the tent market has descended forever downwards in terms of quality of contruction and materials used. At Trailblazer Outdoors we refused to get involved in tents that do not perform most of which are not even vaguely waterproof. We then saw the Fjallraven range of tents which in a typically scandanavian way are built to do the job they are designed for, which is to give bomb proof performance for many years when out in the backcountry and mountains. The lack of general quality in the tent market also concerns me from an environmental standpoint that is the amount of resources that goes into a tent taht is basically a 'throw away item' this has to be wrong in the modern world.
This is what Fjallraven have to say about tents:
Tents should be easy to carry, easy to raise and provide protection from Mother Nature's wilder moments. But things that we take for granted today have not always been so self-evident. The lack of proper shelter when sleeping in the wilderness led Fjällräven to introduce its revolutionary Termo Tent in 1964 - the world's first condensation-free tent.
Almost 50 years later, we are continuing to produce tents that receive accolades from around the world because they are easy to carry, offer a stable construction without sacrificing user-friendliness and are loaded with smart functions.
All Fjallraven Tents have:
Folded seams and thread
All Fjällräven tents have folded seams for extra strength in hard winds. Having folded seams means that each stitch goes through four layers of material. This provides maximum durability and waterproofness. To ensure exceptional strength we work with cotton-covered synthetic thread, which also swells when it becomes wet, making the tent seams waterproof when it rains.
Aluminium poles
All Fjällräven tents come with Aluminium 7075 T9 poles. These poles are lightweight and have elastic silicon cords that can withstand cold temperatures.
Guy lines and line attachments
All Fjällräven tents are equipped with guy lines to provide additional stability during storms. The lines, which are 2 millimetres thick, are made from nylon and are attached at strategic locations around the tent. The line's attachment points are placed to pull the tent walls taut in both an effective and stable manner. The lines are easy to attach even when wearing gloves.
Nordic Style
The fly and inner tent of all Fjällräven tents are attached to one another and can be easily separated if needed. This means that you can use the both the inner tent and the fly separately. Many people opt to only use the inner tent on warm nights. This provides full ventilation while keeping mosquitoes and insects outside.
V bag:
The tent or compression bag is V-shaped to make packing easier while at the same time decreasing the amount of pack volume.
Colour-coded poles and sleeves
Fjällräven tent poles are colour-coded. The sleeves have the same colour as the correct pole, which makes it easy to see which pole belongs to which sleeve.
Foxfoot
All Fjällräven tents have adjustable foxfeet, which makes it easy to pitch a tent in all types of weather.
Triple Ripstop 30D Polyester
Fjallraven use 30D Triple ripstop polyester fabric on all there tents polyester is much more resistant to UV than nylon and thanks to the triple ripstop is very strong. The fabric is also treated on both sides to a siliconisation process that makes it very waterproof for a long time.
These are just a few of the functions that Fjällräven tents offer to increase your comfort in the wilderness.
