Walking Back to Health and Happiness
Posted on September 29 2018
We have two well identified health epidemics in Britain. One very overt, and one not so, those of obesity and depression. Rates amongst the young are on the increase, (as they are in the older generations). There are many other, linked health problems, from heart disease to dementia. In fact, the trend in declining health can be seen in the fact that life expectancy has reduced for the first time in many years. The reasons for this are many and varied. It’s a worrying trend and society needs to tackle it or continue to suffer its ever-increasing burden.
However, there is increasing evidence that one activity can help reverse both these worrying trends. Its not hard to start and is accessible to most. The simple act of walking. There is increasing evidence of its benefits, to both physical and mental health. Study after study reveals time and again its benefits to physical and mental health.
Most of the great journeys we have taken, started with a single step, in the right direction. I don’t think there is a greater personal journey than that to good health and wellbeing.
Start your journey today. Take that first step. It might be hard at first, breaking long established bad habits, but every step you take will help you achieve the life long journey of better physical and mental health.
